University of Iowa Printmaking Invitational

In a show entitled "Printmaking Invitational: UI Graduate Students," Iowa Artisans Gallery featured original prints by ten students in the University of Iowa's famed printmaking program, now rated number one in the country. The University of Iowa is well known for its printmaking program, with UI Professor Emeritus Mauricio Lansansky serving as the "father" of American printmaking. Lasanky's teaching influenced a generation of post-World War II printmakers who then went on to teach in universities across the country.

Of her work, Honl says, "My research of psychological disorders and the irrational thought and behavior that often accompanies them has consistently shaped my work.  I'm currently exploring skewed perceptions of reality and memory, and the role they play in mental illnesses as well as in every-day life. The work combines photographic imagery and the hand-drawn with collaged elements of each to create a constructed reality that questions itself."
