It's Time We Talk It's Time We Talk was a performance art exhibition held at Public Space One in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Curated by Melissa Airy, a group of 9 female performance artists came together to use live actions and storytelling to speak about their personal experiences as women that they had previously kept private to the world. SARA RIEGER Sara received her BFA in Drawing & Painting from Iowa State University in 2005 and k-12 Art Education licensure from the University of Iowa in Spring 2018. Sara will begin coursework for the Center for the Book's graduate certificate in the Fall of 2018. She is a member of the Iowa chapter of the Society of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators. In her own words: The times of control in my life have been few and far between if they existed at all. As a result, I've never stopped acting out my childhood play---art. My visual language is the first language that inflamed my imagination; bedtime stories and fairy tales. My art is about taking a mark or a mess—and making it meaningful. Taking something that's frightening or that's hurt me and making it beautiful. Because I can. Because I can control it. And because it helps me to grow. |
