Janelle Krause is a graduate of the University of Iowa and earned an MFA in painting at the University of Arizona in 2017. She works in a variety of media, including watercolor and oil painting, tea stain paintings, and frequently incorporates fibers and fabrics into her artwork.

In her own words:

I can't quite describe where my fascination started but it started young. When I was five or six I asked my mom to teach me how to sew and I asked my Grandma Johnson to teach me how to knit. I was always playing with string. My mom said I was tying and untying knots in string before I could walk. Of course, it helped that my mom and dad were very indulgent and enrolled me in knitting and weaving classes as a child. When I was nine I learned how to weave at the Spinners and Weavers Guild in Cedar Falls, Iowa. I'm inspired to work in fiber art because of its versatility. It allows me to work in both 2D and 3D, abstractly or representationally. It is one of the few mediums that I get continuous enjoyment out of, and it is one that still incites curiosity.
