Iowa Writes

          A SHUDDER
                            shuddering the quick of things,

A shadow shadowing a world of light,-

Crickets begin to chirp, eve's birds to sing,

Heaven to glow with candles of the night.

A Silence speaking, freezing Still the blood

That pulses through each creature of the sun,

A deeper, higher, humbler knowing of

Some never ending Presence ever come.

A gasp, a glimpse into Eternity,

Its Instant filled with ghosts of fleeting dread,

Commanding tombs of greed to free their dead,

The heart, to wondrous wake in deathless glory.
An Angel's sparrow wing, a Father's playful thumb,
Reminding, smiling, singing: 'I made My children One'.
