Pamela S. Douglas is a member of a number of artist associations including the Pastel Society of America, the International Association of Pastel Societies, the Iowa Artists Association, and the Iowa Arts Council. She is represented by the Heartland Art Gallery in West Des Moines. Her paintings have been featured in several exhibitions across Iowa, and also in Kansas and New York. Her paintings are also included in the collection of Davis, Brown, Koehn, Shors & Roberts Law Firm, in Des Moines. In addition to creating her own work, Pam has also taught studio and plein aire painting classes for the last thirteen years.

In her own words:

I am one of those who took the longer path toward art.  In 1997, I left my corporate career to pursue art full time.  I had been taking art lessons from Mary Muller for several years and discovered I had a voice I hadn't used before.  I have spent a great deal of time in self-study, but have also reached out to many very accomplished artists to help me grow, and am currently under the mentorship of Jack Wilkes.  My subject matter includes familiar containers, vessels, and organic objects that have specific orientation set in space.  These are structured by the impact of color and evolve from a method of layering color to build variations of depth and patterning producing both tension and harmony.  I respect the local or intrinsic color of an object, but I deliberately choose color to create the strongest sense of depth, light, and form.
