Shining in the Air

Where Are They Now?

The Daily Palette often features art from the Graduate Archive to celebrate exemplary work by students who have earned advanced degrees in studio art from the University of Iowa. "Where Are They Now?" gives us the exciting opportunity to catch up with some of these artists, to find out what they have been up to since leaving school and to feature their more contemporary work! Look for links to their previous appearance on The Daily Palette below.

Shining in the Air, Oil on canvas, 64" x 64", 2017

Jamie Evrard was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She earned a BA from Brown University and an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Iowa. She currently resides in Vancouver, Canada and Umbria, Italy, and her work is held in many private and corporate collections around the world. Jamie is represented by Bau Xi Gallery, Vancouver and Toronto, Canada, and by Foster White, in Seattle, Washington. Her favorite non-art pastimes involve aerial silks and other circus arts. Roommate: The Bearcat.

In her own words:
What most intrigues me as subject matter for my paintings are the most ordinary things; still life objects that I see around the house day after day but which resonate for me in their familiarity, and rather unremarkable landscapes in which I can find a particular quiet, understated beauty and mystery. I paint in order to see what it is I am looking at. Making art is a way of taking possession, a way of finding out how things really are, or perhaps of making them as I would like them to be. If a few days go by without my having drawn or painted, I become completely impossible.
