Roy R. Behrens teaches graphic design and design history at the University of Northern Iowa.  He has published seven books, scores of essays and articles, and has been interviewed in various documentary films.  He is internationally known for his long-term research of art and camouflage.  As a designer, he has illustrated works by dozens of American writers, among them Guy Davenport, Jerzy Kosinski, and others.  You can find more information about Behrens and his work here.

The artist writes, "I write to be read aloud.  When I design or otherwise make visual forms, I speak to the eye instead of the ear.  I have never been eager to translate from one to the other through artist's statements."
