Iowa Writes

Antique Camera

Darkness lurks the light, surrounding
its design onto fields of rolling silver. The magic
box blinks at the touch
of a hand stopping speeding light
that glistens the day. Lens glass shines
like the eyes of a child playing
in sunlight, as the bellows slides
closer, guiding the subjects in a suspended
moment, rolling out a history of the world.

About Iowa Writes

In November of 2008, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated Iowa City, Iowa, the world's third City of Literature, making the community part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

Charles Trimberger is a retired psychotherapist who actively used the healing agency of metaphor and story in his work for over 40 years.  He believes in the interaction among the humanities and healing, which fuels his drive to write poetry and other forms of short fiction.  This poem is a result of his participation in the metaphors and similes weekend at the Iowa Summer Writing Festival.
