Light On My Path

Cornfields & Rolling Hills: A Celebration of the Iowa Landscape

All this week the Daily Palette will be featuring works of art that depict the beauty of Iowa's landscape. Created by Iowans, these artworks are meant to celebrate our state and demonstrate our appreciation for its flat plains, tall bluffs, and everything in between.

Light On My Path, soft pastels, 18" x 24", 2015

Denice Peters is an Iowa native, and currently lives in Denison, Iowa.  She's a full-time, self-taught, pastel artist.  She took it upon herself to hone and craft her unique style and talent.  She exhibits regionally and nationally in group and solo shows and galleries, and has won many ribbons and awards over the years, including "Best of Show."  Denice is a member of the prestigious Pastel Society of America, as well as the Iowa Pastel Society, the Midwest Pastel Society, and Iowa Artists.  She is represented by Dundee Gallery in Omaha, Nebraska, Corning Art Center in Corning, Iowa, and Clear Lake Art Center in Clear Lake, Iowa.

Denice writes, "I'm a full time pastel artist focusing on realistic landscapes and more.  I love the "hands on" appeal to pastels.  I get right into the painting with my hands and my paintings become part of me in many ways!  I start with a sketch of a local scene and add layers of color to achieve the results I want.  I want to capture my love of the natural landscape we have in the Midwest, before it disappears.  Beauty can be found all around us in the everyday landscapes we take for granted.  I hope my work brings joy and peace.  Life is too short to do otherwise."
