JANNA BOWMAN
planters, recycled glass

Janna Bowman is originally from West Union, Iowa but has lived in Cedar Falls, Iowa since 1984.  She attended the University of Northern Iowa where she earned a B.A. in the Visual Arts.  She started Green Earth Glass in 2005.  She creates fine art mosaics and a variety of products, including jewelry, candles, terrariums, and lights using recycled glass.  She is a full-time mail carrier with the USPS as well as a part-time caterer with A Moment In Thyme catering company in Cedar Falls.  She also teaches mosaic classes at the Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls.

Janna writes this about her work: "Art is my meditation and comfort.  Creating keeps me grounded and appreciative of my surroundings.  My art is guided by my desire to recycle and reclaim items that would otherwise end up in a dumpster.  Recreating ordinary objects and recyclables into something thoughtful, useful, or artistic is very meaningful to me.  My favorite material is definitely glass.  I love it because of its timeless qualities.  It is also incredibly versatile.  Glass can be cut, broken, melted, blown, glued, and painted.  I find it to be a beautiful material to work with and it constantly inspires me."
