MARA COLE Green Sorrow, oil on canvas, 10" x 10"
Mara Cole lives and works in Iowa City. The artist writes this about her work: "Since childhood, art has always been an integral part of my life. Every day I feel an innate need to create images, to express myself through my work-whether it be painting, drawing, photography, fiber arts, or design. My work consists mainly of life drawings and paintings, and a variety of subjects in ink, pencil color, watercolor and oil. I enjoy capturing the simple loveliness or beauty of an object or figure. Line is the essence of my work. With each piece I strive to make the contours and lines of the figure or object harmonious with one another. Each work emphasizes the importance of expression through line and the emotion of color. Sometimes these lines come together to explore sadness or tension, at other times tranquility or peace. Whatever their voice, the lines must be in unison in order to make the piece work." text and image from The Chait Galleries Downtown
