Station 25

Station 25, acrylic, 30" x 40"

Scot Bunnell is a self-taught artist.  He was born and raised in Iowa.

Mr. Bunnell writes this about his art:

"Art provides me the depth to view life with wonder and integrity - with curiosity and commitment.  It is full of purpose and vision.  Whether I'm painting or drawing, both acts are ripe with fulfillment.  To transform what are merely materials into something with vision and insight takes looking at what's tangible, dreaming intangibly and then bringing those two worlds a little closer together.

Art is not only a passion to me but a necessity.

Even though I would say nature inspires me, I paint from the inside out.  My work deliberately and consciously steps with unconscious mobility.  I employ both traditional and innovative techniques with subject matter ranging from abstract landscapes to realistic portraits - from textured still lifes to vertical gardens of color.  I choose to paint primarily in acrylic and do so because the process allows me to register quickly, instantly and spontaneously - capturing the moment's notice between idea and feeling - impression and outcome.
When my work is going well, I am filled with a sense of awe - of communicating with all possibilities.  When people see my art, I'd like them to breathe and take notice into feeling what is beautiful.  Knowing that beauty is subjective doesn't matter - for me, the understanding of beauty is the concept of it.  Therefore the experience can be shared.  I'm often asked, 'When do you consider a piece done?'  And I tell them I know a work is completed when there's communication between us and the piece has the ability to grow.

My work consists of listening and my paintings allow me to speak."
