JEAN WEINER Jean Weiner grew up in northern Illinois. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and her Master of Science in biomedical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. After a battle with cancer in 2003, Jean picked up her brushes, ending a 25-year hiatus from painting. She is a signature member with the Iowa Watercolor Society. She is also a member of the Southern Watercolor Society and serves on their board as treasurer. Jean exhibits and sells her art nationally, and has won numerous awards. She has been commissioned to do a number of paintings for private collections. Jean currently teaches watercolor classes and also conducts watercolor workshops. Jean writes about her art: "My artistic ability is a gift. My battle with cancer opened my eyes and heart to the importance of using this gift so that I may share it with others. Watercolor is my medium of choice because it challenges me. I typically work from several photo references to develop an original composition. I love to combine the use of soft, wet into wet, backgrounds along with crisp detailed foreground subjects. My sincere hope as an artist is that for those who pause long enough to view my art they might better appreciate the simple beauty that surrounds us all." |
