When the Moon Blew Through There the Grass Blew Loose

EMILY MELANDER
When the Moon Blew Through There the Grass Blew Loose, intaglio, 22" x 24"

I am inspired and influenced by the representation of animal figures in cave paintings and in children's art.  When I draw a horse I reduce it to its essential elements: body, legs, tail, head, ears, eyes, nostrils, and mouth.  Memory rather than strict observation guides me to the form.  This process produces a visual language which tends toward spontaneity and playfulness.
