KAREN KURKA JENSEN "Deceptively simple in appearance, Sumi-e painting can be a refuge of inner peace and self-enlightenment. Underlying the apparent simplicity and harmony of composition, there is first of all a philosophy, one that sees unifying pattern of life natural forms. The Sumi-e artist celebrates the simplest things on earth as representing continuing life." Karen Kurka Jensen is well recognized both locally and nationally for her teaching and application of Sumi-e painting techniques. Grounded by the traditional methods and materials of this eastern art form, the artist has evolved a personally expressive and bold style. She shows in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City metropolitan area, and serves as president of the Cedar Rapids Creative Artists. Text and image from Cambell Steel Gallery in Marion Iowa. |
