Iowa Writes

The Secrets of Iowa

Those shapely, corn-fed moppets
wringing their skiffs and banjos
simpers draining with elegance
moans from caped peaches
shuffling through the underbrush
Where have ye gone?

Glasses of yarn yanking the ears
boys pulling weeds with fistfuls of jelly
gems are drudged from
clumps of clay, baked in the fire
blurs linger
What have ye done?

Maneuvering, showers of silver dollars
an iron rod --- or --- wood
farmers creep upon prickles as

moon dust moistens
quick, flashes close and tracks tighten
What have ye shucked?
