A fairy tale I've entered,
strolling down this gravel road!

These corn stalks, tall and straight, are
a million enchanted soldiers

and somewhere in the woods
throngs of grasshopper-musicians
have gathered to play
their drone instruments.

Still more of them
come leaping from the brush,
crazed Russian dancers.

In response, across the way,
scores of graceful sunflowers
piroutte in the breeze

About this work, Max writes, "I wrote this piece last week while driving through Iowa. The photo goes with it.  I feel, at least, that it catches at least some of the spirit of the rural part of  your state."
