Tireswing, oil on canvas, 60'' x 48'', 2007

Chuck Richards is an associate professor who teaches drawing at Iowa State University and serves as coordinator of Core drawing for the College of Design. He has participated in over 135 exhibitions since 1983 and is an author and illustrator of children's books, including "Jungle Gym Jitters" and "Critter Sitter".

Chuck Richards' work reflects an eclectic combination of sources that include Renaissance painting, contemporary illustration, movies, black light posters and Mad magazine. He uses traditional drawing and painting techniques to create whimsical images that tell stories.  Although the subjects come from his imagination, they are informed by years of drawing from direct observation.

This piece is located on the second floor of the John Colloton Pavilion in University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
