Iowa Writes

DAVID DUER
Near Court Hill

Two boys crossing a footbridge over Ralston Creek

Lug a white five-gallon bucket between them.

Grins a mile wide, they show me their prize:

A dozen crawdads swimming around in a half-foot of water.

And that's when I recognize the boys: Huck and Tom

Still up to their old tricks in the twenty-first century.
