Washed Away

Washed Away, acrylic, 24" x 17.5"

Matthew Lyvers writes, "I was born in Denver, Colorado and moved to the Iowa City area in the early 80's. As far back as I can remember I have always had an interest in art. In high school I took full advantage of as many art classes as I could from ceramics and drawing, to advanced art studio. After high school, I continued my interest in art on my own and developed a love for graphite and charcoal. Realism became my goal with portrait and pin-up style pieces. I then felt the need to work with more color and emotion, so I turned my interest from realism into a more abstract form. I found a refreshing new freedom working with pastels, worrying less about detail and trying to make things look real, which allowed me to express more feeling than in my previous work. I continue to pursue new ways to portray what I see, feel, and experience in my life, and I look forward to experimenting with different mediums in the future."
