GREG FUQUA
Organic Conception #2, acrylic on paper, 74" x 50", 2003

Greg Fuqua writes, "I was born in Des Moines, Iowa and I grew up in Ames, Iowa. I graduated from the University of Iowa in 1994 with a BFA in Printmaking. In 1997 I entered the graduate school at New Mexico State University to study Painting. I received my MFA in Painting in 2000. Since that time I have exhibited widely throughout the US in both national and international juried, group and solo shows. My large-scale work powerfully combines science, nature, process and the imagination. Additionally, I am an artist who is strongly connected to contemporary drawing practice. Currently I am an artist-in-residence at The Octagon Center for the Arts, in Ames, Iowa, and an Adjunct Instructor of studio art at the Des Moines Area Community College. I have a studio and live in Ames, Iowa with my wife and two daughters ages 3 and 6."

Of his work, Fuqua writes, "My work is a melding of my fascination of nature, science, and the forces that shape the form and behavior of matter, and consciousness. In a sense my work represents a reflection between creative nature and creative consciousness. I have invented my own cosmological system and theories, to express notions that combine the micro/macro, inner/outer, the biologic/cosmologic, feminine/masculine, energy/matter, notions of connectedness to nature, and to creationary processes."
