Iowa Writes

...opting instead for waves of green blades
in the unmowing summer
On the background of red buttons
  And whistle-blowing trouble
  Backflip off the board
  Into the less-than-clear future waters
  Electric juiced 4-wheelers grinding gravel
    Childproof, of course
    Beetles playing guitar
      Stag to be exact
To the tune of romance in the Park

  Like friends over time
    Goodbye grudges, hello 5 a.m.
    Weddings not far off
And long ago were the senior days
      Good books, better food
      Homegrown gardens full of vegetables
      And butterflies
Cool lake breeze beside campfire warmth
Unnecessarily necessary heat of logs on the beach
    Lemonade and BLTs
    A freshly squeezed summer
    Bell peppers and peaches
  Superb, quintessential, perfect
  Never beginning, never ending
Choosing cicada chimes with maple tree shade
Seeking better fishing waters but...
