Stephanie Nelson is in her fourth year in Iowa State University's landscape architecture program.

Of her work, Nelson writes, "My interest in landscape architecture began with the idea that the profession is a combination of art and science.  Now I understand the work of a landscape architect can be much more complex than that, dealing with all aspects of sustainability: economic, social, and environmental.  I am particularly interested in the ability of a designed space to reveal the ecological and hydrological functions that are often made invisible.  Examples include stormwater management practices such as rain gardens that can filter the water instead of relying completely on underground pipe systems.
