INTERMEDIA ARTISTS IN COMMUNITY Collaborative installation by Britni Borland, Kyle Braunschweig, Stephanie Brunia, Nate Cline, Caleb Engstrom, Sara Green, Paige Harwell, Lisa Keely, Joanna Krajewski, Brett Lynch, Megan Mathews, Larissa Schwartz, and Cole Zrostlik. Working on site in the gallery, University of Iowa students participating in the semester-long seminar "Intermedia Artists In Community" created "How to Cross the Street," a collaborative installation. The seminar paired artists with seven Iowa City non-profit agencies to work on a wide and diverse range of socially engaged creative projects. Participating 2007 Agencies included United Action for Youth, Iowa City Senior Center, Uptown Bill's, the James Gang, Rape Victim Advocacy Program, Women's Resource and Action Center, and the Crisis Center. Conceived loosely as a town, the installation hinted at the interrelationship of community agencies and the spirit of civic engagement. |
