Spiral

ELAINE BALL
Spiral, willow, 15" x 22"

In the way that ideas inherent in a novel or poem are influenced by the form, ideas explored visually are also influenced by the form.  Many artsit choose to work with a particualr form and material, however, I see materials as a means to an end.  The creation of an artifact signifying a message, finding the most appropriate method for expressing any given idea is crucial to the communication of this idea/experience to the viewer.  Art has traditionally been used to preserve, remind, and inform.  I think of my work as fitting closely into this tradition.
