Snow Globe

A flask of white snow among fir trees, spiraling,
And a little white bear unbroken in the journey
By air.

My aunt has written,

"Some snow from France, in memory."

And the water from another globe my mother sent me
For Christmas that broke one year, the hobby horse carrousel,
Crystals seeping in every corner of the kitchen,

A snow scene never leaving --

Adrienne Rich recalling Citizen Kane's "Rosebud" and
Happiness of youth.

St. Augustine once wrote about Temptation,

"Swallows are always flying overhead; just
            Don't let them nest in your hair . . . ."

The hour glass of time is over-turning.  I want
To relive my life.

Come rest in my hair, wintery snows of yesterday;
Illumine my memory, your light residing
The cold nights,

The taste of you cold on my tongue.
