Jean Weiner grew up in northern Illinois.  She majored in biology while at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and received her BA in 1982.  She went on to receive her MS in biomedical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1985.  Jean worked as a biomedical engineer/operations manager for a medical device company in north suburban Chicago until she and her husband started their family.  In 1997 her family relocated to Albany, Georgia where she enjoyed being an active volunteer in the community.  She now lives and works in Le Mars, Iowa.

After a battle with cancer in 2003, Jean picked up her brushes again and ended a 25-year hiatus from painting.  Her memberships with professional art groups have grown to include the Tallahassee Watercolor Society (Signature Member), the Illinois Watercolor Society, the Iowa Watercolor Society (Signature Member), the Southern Watercolor Society, and the National Watercolor Society.  She currently serves on the board as treasurer for the Southern Watercolor Society.  Jean exhibits and sells her art nationally, and has won numerous awards.  She has been commissioned to do a number of paintings for private collections.  Jean teaches watercolor classes and also conducts watercolor workshops.

"My artistic ability is a gift. Watercolor is my medium of choice because it challenges me. I typically work from several photo references to develop an original composition. I love to combine the use of soft, wet into wet, backgrounds along with crisp detailed foreground subjects, choosing complimentary, vibrant, colors, emphasizing light. I often choose to paint God's beautiful nature, in the hope that those who pause long enough to view my art might better appreciate the beauty that surrounds us all." ~ Jean
