JUDITH ANN MORIARTY
Dee Tassel, mixed media, 18'' x 28'', 2009
One of a series of eight based on growing up in Iowa's Nodaway Valley. Yes, Virginia, there really is such a place in the rolling hills approximately 70 miles east of Omaha.
Judith writes, "Though I currently live and work as an artist and writer in Milwaukee, the state bordering me to the west is where my heart is... specifically Iowa, and more specifically, the Nodaway Valley. The inspiration for the majority of my paintings, it's the place that nurtured my two books of fairytales. My grandfather Maurice Moriarty graduated from the University of Iowa in the late 1800s, as did my mother in 1935. Currently writing art reviews and my fairytales for local online daily magazine Thirdcoastdigest.com. 2006 recipient of Milwaukee Press Club award for excellence in feature writing, 750 wds. or less. Author of weekly City Mouse column in Villisca (Iowa) Review/Stanton Viking."
