Iowa Writes

LINDITA ARAPI
Variations

a bouquet of fresh flowers
fragrance drifting freely
bound with a beggar's rag
a token of my naivetè

a bouquet of dried stems
neatly trimmed at each end
bound with a bright velvet ribbon
the trophy of my maturity

a bouquet of cactus stalks
spines passively threatening
bound only with my bleeding fingers
a token of being adrift again
