J.D. Griggs is a resident of Iowa and lives on a rural acreage outside of Ottumwa. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Milliken University in Decatur, Illinois, with an assistantship to the University Fine Art Department during his senior year in the night school instruction of drawing and painting. J.D. is a former member of the United States Peace Corps in the Caribbean, where he taught drawing, ceramics, and academics in a middle school and adult environment. In the year that followed, he taught drawing and painting in the Philadelphia school system. Following a military tour of Vietnam, J.D. returned to Milliken University for Post Graduate Independent Studies in Painting, where he presented a one-man show of forty-five canvases. More recent exhibitions have been in Ottumwa at the Indian Hills Community College Gallery, the exhibition spaces of the Internal Medicine Clinic, and Rehfeld Galleries in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Watercolors, oil, and acrylics are in the private collections of patrons in New York, Philadelphia, Washington, Alexandria, Virginia, Chicago, Iowa, California, and Oregon.
